Dear Doctor,

Dear Doctor,
Please be advised that applicants who are graduates of medical schools in Cuba who claim their medical school will not sign their application form and/or complete and return to ECFMG® the verification of their credentials due to a Cuban government resolution that forbids such verification for health professionals who have left Cuba without permission may request consideration by the ECFMG Medical Education Credentials Committee.
In order for ECFMG to evaluate your request you must submit to ECFMG a detailed letter outlining which requirement you are requesting an exception for and the circumstances that you believe are relevant to the request. Please be certain to include your USMLE®/ECFMG identification number and signature on the request. If you also have refugee/asylum/parole status in the United States you must submit documentation of this status to ECFMG with your request.
You must also submit copies of your final medical school diploma and final medical school transcript in the original language, along with a word for word English translation of the documents. As you have not already submitted a Certification of Identification form (Form 186) to ECFMG you must submit the aforementioned documentation to ECFMG along with a notarized Form 186; you may leave Part B of the Form 186 blank.
Once received, the documentation will be evaluated and you will be notified directly. Please note however that the review process may be extremely lengthy.Sincerely
